Road-tripping around Scotland

Tyler Scotland 002

When I was younger I always dreamed of getting out of Scotland. I have lived here my whole life and for far too long I took it for granted and didn’t appreciate what an incredible place it is. It’s only over the past few years that I’ve really taken the time to properly travel within Scotland and I regret not discovering it’s beauty sooner. Sometimes it takes the perspective of an outsider to make you appreciate how lucky you are, and making this road-trip around the country with my friend Tyler in March definitely made me realise how fortunate I am. I think we were literally screaming in the car at one point because every time we turned a corner the scenery got more beautiful and dramatic.

Being on the road is one of my favourite things ever, I can’t explain it but there is just something about being surrounded by incredible nature on country roads and watching everything speed past, especially with good company, music and snacks, it just makes me feel so at peace and present.

Tyler came all the way from Florida to visit the UK and after Scotland he travelled south to meet up with Bella (who organised the retreat in Bali) and then on to London. He is one of the sweetest people I have ever met and we had the best time staying in little cabins, doing impromptu photoshoots, driving many miles across Skye late at night to get smoothies, and drinking from the clearest natural pools of water I think I have ever seen.

We stopped at a lay-by spontaneously and this is what we found down an embankment – paradise.

This was the most incredible view. We abandoned the car at the side of the road, no time to find a proper parking place, and ran out taking too many photos – overwhelmed by the beauty of it all. Then we sat down in silence and just stared at it for a while.

The walk to the Fairy Pools on the Isle of Skye. I have wanted to see these for a long time so was pretty excited to finally be there.

We were lucky enough to catch the lunar eclipse from a lay-by on the drive down from the highlands. I’m obsessed with anything star/moon related and was too young to appreciate last time this happened, so this was pretty special for me.

We got back to Edinburgh and spent most of the time shooting.
